Downloads & Offline Playback

Downloads save films and shows straight to your device so you can watch on a plane, the Underground, or anywhere without a connection. Downloads are part of Zuno Pro.

Open a title’s detail page and tap Download. For a film, that’s all there is to it. For a show, a menu offers a few choices:

  • Download Next Unwatched Episode
  • Download a whole season
  • Download All Seasons

Downloads keep going in the background. You can start something downloading and carry on browsing or watching something else.

Open Downloads from the profile menu on the home screen (or the sidebar on iPad and Mac). Everything you’ve saved lives here, grouped into:

  • Downloading: anything still in progress, with a progress bar. Items pause and show Waiting for Wi-Fi if they can’t use cellular data.
  • Downloaded: finished films as posters, and shows grouped together so you can open a show to see its episodes.
  • Unavailable: downloads whose files can’t be found right now, usually because an external drive is disconnected or they were moved outside Zuno.

To remove things, swipe or long-press an item (long-press a show for Delete All Episodes), or use Clear All to wipe every download at once.

Tap any downloaded film or episode to play it. When a title is saved to your device, Zuno plays the local copy automatically, so it works with no connection at all. Your progress still syncs back to your server the next time you’re online.

All of these are on the Downloads screen itself:

  • Download Location: keep downloads in App Storage on your device, or choose a folder or an external drive instead. iCloud Drive can’t be used. Changing location clears your current downloads first.
  • Quality: when you have a Plex server connected, choose how large downloads are: Original (Maximum), High (1080p), Medium (720p), or Low (480p). Lower quality saves space and downloads faster.
  • Cellular Downloads: allow downloading over mobile data. Off by default, so downloads wait for Wi-Fi.
  • Auto-delete Watched: remove a download automatically once you’ve finished it, to free up space. On by default.
  • Smart Downloads: automatically keep the next few episodes of shows you’re watching downloaded and ready. When on, you can set how many Episodes Ahead to keep (1, 2, 3, or 5) and a Storage Budget (2, 5, 10, 20 GB, or Unlimited) so it never uses more space than you want.

The top of the Downloads screen shows how much space your downloads use and where they’re stored. Between Auto-delete Watched, the Smart Downloads budget, and Clear All, you can keep downloads from filling up your device. If you’d rather not use internal storage at all, point the Download Location at an external drive.
