Server Sharing
Server Sharing makes it easy for the people who use your server to use Zuno too. Instead of sending someone your server address and walking them through setup, you send them an invite. They tap it, sign in with their own account on your server, and they’re in, with a home screen you’ve set up and requests that work straight away.
How it works
Section titled “How it works”When you share a server, Zuno creates a group named after it. You’re the admin, and everyone you invite who joins is a member.
Members always sign in with their own account on your server, so your server still decides what each person can watch. Server Sharing adds what Zuno can do on top: invites, a shared home screen, a shared Seerr, and a list of who’s joined.
It’s completely optional. If you don’t share a server or join one, Zuno works exactly as it always has.
What you need
Section titled “What you need”- To share a server, you need to be its admin: the owner of your Plex server, or an administrator on your Jellyfin or Emby server.
- Everyone signs in with Apple, both to share and to join. You can choose to hide your email.
- Each member needs their own account on your server. On Plex, that means your server is shared with their Plex account. On Jellyfin and Emby, they need a user on your server.
- Sharing is managed from iPhone, iPad or Mac. Apple TV can join a server and use everything that’s shared, but you manage sharing from your phone or Mac.
Sharing your server
Section titled “Sharing your server”- Open Settings > Server Sharing.
- Under Your Servers, choose the server you want to share.
- Tap Share and sign in with Apple if you’re asked.
- Zuno creates an invite. Tap Share Invite Link to send it, or read out the
invite code (it looks like
7K3F-Q9).
Anyone with the link who can sign in to your server can join, for 30 days. Tap Create New Link at any time to replace it, which turns the old link off.
To invite one person in particular, tap Invite a Specific Person and choose them from your server’s users. That invite works once, only for that person’s account, for 7 days. It shows under Waiting to Join until they use it, and you can revoke it there.
Joining a server
Section titled “Joining a server”If someone has shared their server with you:
- Tap the invite link they sent. If you don’t have Zuno yet, install it first, then tap the link again. You can also enter the invite code under Settings > Server Sharing > Have an Invite?, or choose Have an Invite? on the Welcome screen.
- Sign in with Apple.
- Sign in to their server with your own account. On Jellyfin and Emby, the server address is filled in for you.
- Tap Join.
- If they’ve shared a home screen, choose Use Shared Home Screen or Keep My Home Screen. You can change your mind later.
On Apple TV, enter the invite code under Settings > Server Sharing > Have an Invite?, or on the Welcome screen.
If joining doesn’t work
Section titled “If joining doesn’t work”- “This invite has expired or isn’t valid”: ask for a new link.
- “This invite is for a different account”: the invite was made for someone else. Ask for an invite for your account.
- “Your Plex account doesn’t have access”: the server isn’t shared with your Plex account yet. Ask the admin to share it with you on Plex first.
- “Ask the person who invited you to open Server Sharing in Zuno”: your account on their server hasn’t been set up for sharing yet. Once they’ve opened Server Sharing, try again.
Sharing your home screen
Section titled “Sharing your home screen”You can set up a home screen once and have everyone start with it.
- Open Settings > Server Sharing and choose your server.
- Tap Home Screen. The usual Home Rows editor opens as Shared Home Screen.
- Add, remove and reorder rows, then tap Publish.
Your own home screen isn’t changed. The shared one starts as a copy of yours the first time, and you edit it separately from then on.
What can be shared. Rows from the server you’re sharing, Zuno’s own rows such as Discover, Networks and Airing This Week, and rows you’ve built from that server’s collections and playlists, Zuno Picks and Discover. Shelves and Rotating Rows keep the parts that can be shared. Personal rows, such as your watchlist and lists from other services, stay yours.
Everyone sees their own version of each row. Continue Watching shows what they’re watching, and Airing This Week shows their shows. A row built from a playlist only shows for members who can see that playlist on your server.
Members don’t need Zuno Pro to get rows you’ve built. Building rows needs Pro, but receiving them doesn’t.
To stop sharing it, tap Stop Sharing Home Screen. Anyone who already uses it keeps their copy.
Editable or locked, per person
Section titled “Editable or locked, per person”In the Members list, tap the menu next to someone to Lock Home Screen or Unlock Home Screen.
- Editable (the default): members choose whether to use your home screen. If they do, their own rows are kept, just switched off, and they can change anything. When you publish changes, a small card at the top of their Home offers the update, with Apply or Not Now.
- Locked: their home screen always matches what you publish, and they can’t change it. Changes arrive by themselves. If you unlock them, or they leave, their own home screen comes back.
As a member
Section titled “As a member”Open Settings > Server Sharing and choose the server to see how you’re using its home screen:
- Use Shared Home Screen switches to it, or Use the Latest Version applies an update.
- Restore My Previous Home Screen goes back to the home screen you had before you first used a shared one.
Sharing your Seerr
Section titled “Sharing your Seerr”If you’ve connected Seerr in Zuno Connect, you can let members request through it. Each person signs in to your Seerr as themselves, so requests, approvals and limits apply to the right person. Your API key and your own sign-in are never shared.
- Open Settings > Server Sharing, choose your server and tap Seerr.
- Check the Address for Members. It starts as your own Seerr address.
- Tap Share Seerr.
Before members try it, check these in Seerr:
- Let new people in. In Seerr, go to Settings > Users, turn on Enable New Plex Sign-In (or Jellyfin or Emby), and press Save Changes. Without this, Seerr turns away anyone you haven’t imported. Zuno warns you on the Seerr sharing screen if it’s off.
- Same kind of server. Seerr has to be set up for the same kind of server you’re sharing, with Enable Plex Sign-In (or Jellyfin or Emby) turned on.
- An address that works away from home. Members use Seerr from their own homes,
so the address has to work over the internet. An address like
192.168.1.100or one ending in.localonly works on your home network, and Zuno warns you about it.
If a gateway in front of Seerr needs the custom headers you’ve set in Zuno Connect, turn on Include Custom Headers. Everyone in the group can read them, so they’re only shared if you choose.
How members sign in
Section titled “How members sign in”| Server | How they sign in to your Seerr |
|---|---|
| Plex | Automatically, with their own Plex account. |
| Jellyfin | Automatically with Quick Connect, if your Seerr is version 3.4 or later and Quick Connect is turned on in Jellyfin (Dashboard > General, on by default). Otherwise they enter their Jellyfin password once. |
| Emby | They enter their Emby password once. If their account has no password, they’re signed in automatically. |
A password is kept in the keychain on their device, so they stay signed in, and it reaches their other devices through iCloud Keychain.
Using a shared Seerr
Section titled “Using a shared Seerr”If you don’t have a Seerr of your own, a server’s shared Seerr is used automatically, and you can request straight away. If you do have your own, Zuno keeps using yours, and you can switch from the server’s screen in Settings > Server Sharing, or under Settings > Zuno Connect > Requests. Only one Seerr is used at a time.
Good to know:
- A shared Seerr works without Zuno Pro.
- Requests use that Seerr’s own defaults. Your Default Request Options only apply to your own Seerr.
- Request alerts aren’t available while you use a shared Seerr.
- If you’re asked to sign in, open Settings > Server Sharing, choose the server and tap Sign In.
- If you see “isn’t letting new people sign in yet”, the admin needs to turn on new sign-ins in Seerr, as above.
Managing members
Section titled “Managing members”Your server’s sharing screen lists everyone who has joined and when. If you have any Zuno Connect alerts turned on, your iPhone and iPad also get a notification when someone joins.
To take someone out of the group, tap the menu next to them and choose Remove. They stop getting anything shared through Zuno, but they can still sign in to your server. To block their access completely, change or remove their account on your server.
To stop sharing altogether, tap Stop Sharing. Everyone leaves the group and invite links stop working. Their sign-ins to your server aren’t affected.
Leaving a server
Section titled “Leaving a server”Open Settings > Server Sharing, choose the server and tap Leave. You stay signed in to the server; only what was shared through Zuno stops. If you’re using its home screen, Zuno asks whether to restore your previous one or keep this one.
Privacy
Section titled “Privacy”- Your server passwords never leave your devices. Zuno never stores them.
- Sign in with Apple lets you hide your email address.
- Members’ names in your list come from your own server, as they appear there.
- Removing someone, leaving, or stopping sharing takes effect straight away.
