Customising Your Home Screen

Your home screen is fully yours to arrange. If building, removing, or moving rows isn’t obvious at first, this page walks you through it. Everything below lives in Settings → Home & Interface.

Home rows explained

Your home screen is made up of rows stacked top to bottom. There are two kinds:

Essentials are the staples Zuno gives you: Jump back in (where you pick up what you were watching) and a row for each of your libraries. You simply switch these on or off.
Custom rows are ones you build yourself with Create a Row from your collections, playlists, genres, favourite actors and directors, external lists and more.

On Your Home

The On Your Home section lists the rows currently showing, in order.

Reorder: drag any row up or down. The order here is exactly how your home screen shows them, top to bottom.
Remove: tap the red minus next to a row. Essentials (Jump back in and your libraries) are simply switched off and can be switched back on any time. A row you built yourself is deleted for good, along with any cover image you added, after a quick confirmation.

Essentials

Under Essentials you’ll find Jump back in and a row for each library on your servers. Switch on the ones you want. These are always available and don’t count against your custom rows.

Create a Row

Everything beyond the Essentials is built with Create a Row. You choose how the row should look, give it a name, choose where its titles come from, then check a live preview before adding it.

In Home Rows, tap Create a Row and choose a row type:
- Standard Poster or Standard Landscape for a traditional shelf.
- Numbered Poster or Numbered Landscape to show each title’s position with a large rank number.
- Hub for one cover that opens a page of titles.
- Grouped to give each chosen source its own cover.
Give the row a name. Turn off Show row name if you want the name kept for managing the row without displaying it on your home screen.
Choose a source for its titles:
- Collection, Playlist or Genre from your own libraries.
- Person to pin favourite actors or directors and see what they’re in.
- Watchlist and Discover for things to watch next.
- Zuno Picks for curated selections.
- MDBList and Trakt List to pull in lists you follow elsewhere. Some of these ask you to sign in the first time, and stay connected after.
Pick the collections, lists or people you want. Use search to narrow a long collection or item list.
Choose the sort and filters, check the preview, then tap Add to Home.

How your row looks

The type you choose at the start sets the row’s layout and artwork. Standard rows use familiar poster or landscape cards. Numbered rows use the same shapes with a large position number beside each title. A Hub is one cover that opens a whole page, while Grouped gives every chosen source its own cover.

You can give a Hub your own cover image in place of the default title and poster fan. The final step lets you order the titles and narrow the row to Movies or Shows before checking the preview.

Home layout

Your Apple TV home screen comes in two styles, and you can switch between them any time in Settings → Home & Interface → Home Layout. A full-screen preview shows you each one before you choose.

Grid is the classic layout: a featured banner at the top with your rows stacked below, scrolling as you go.
Spotlight fills the whole screen with artwork of whatever you’re focused on. A single row sits along the bottom, and moving up and down pages through your rows while the artwork and details behind change to match.

Grid options

Focus Previews: expand a backdrop panel when you focus a card.
Focus Preview Trailers: play a short trailer inside that panel, with an optional start delay.

Spotlight options

Play Trailers: play a trailer behind a title once you settle on it. Turn this off to keep still artwork.
Immersive Trailer: after a moment on a title, the row slides away for a full-screen trailer. Move in any direction to bring it back.
Immersive Delay: how long to wait before the trailer takes over the screen.

The large featured banner at the top of the Grid home screen is the Hero section. Turn Show Hero Section on or off in Home & Interface to suit your taste.

How cards look

Under Global Card Settings you can change how every poster and card looks across the app:

Card shape: Poster, Square, Standard, or Compact.
Show Progress Bar on cards. Ratings, tags and watched markers on posters now live in the Poster Builder, below.
Image quality: smaller images load faster and use less bandwidth; higher detail looks sharper on large displays but uses more.

Poster Builder

The Poster Builder overlays useful details straight onto your poster art, so you can see them at a glance without opening a title. Open it from Settings → Home & Interface → Poster Builder, where a live poster preview updates as you change each option.

Set Poster Enhancement to On to show your chosen details, or Off to keep your posters clean. When it’s on, pick any combination of:

Genre: the title’s main genre.
Rating: its review score. Set the Rating Source to an overall average or a specific source such as IMDb, Rotten Tomatoes or TMDB.
Age Rating: the certification, such as PG or 15.
Quality Tags: the resolution and range, such as 4K or Dolby Vision.
Trend Tags: a marker on titles that are trending.
Episodes Remaining: how many episodes of a show you’ve yet to watch.
Watched Indicator: a tick on titles you’ve finished.

Your choices apply to newly loaded posters across your shelves and libraries.

Appearance

Choose your look under Appearance:

Pure Black is best for OLED displays, giving true blacks.
Graphite uses a subtle dark-gray gradient across the app.

Other handy toggles

A few more options in Home & Interface worth knowing about:

Instantly Play: tapping a Continue Watching card starts playback right away. Turn it off to open the detail page first instead.
Play Theme Songs: play a title’s theme music while you browse it.
Hide Episode Spoilers: hides episode thumbnails and descriptions for unwatched episodes.
Prefer Media Server Artwork: use your server’s backdrops on detail pages instead of Zuno’s default artwork.
Detail Screen Button: choose what the button beside Play does on a movie or show page. Pick from Download, Trailer, Watchlist, or Mark Watched.

If a row looks empty

If you add rows and they appear empty, open your home screen first so Zuno can load your content, then return to settings. Some rows only populate once the home screen has loaded them.

If your home screen shows No Home Rows, your server is connected but no rows are switched on. Tap Set Up Home Rows to choose some, or Restore Default Rows to bring back the standard set.
