Trailers

Zuno can play a trailer behind a title on the home screen, in the Spotlight layout, and in focus previews, as well as offering trailers on a title’s detail page. Whether a trailer plays automatically depends on your server and on the files it has.

Two kinds of trailer

Zuno works with two different things people both call a “trailer”:

  • Playable trailers are actual video the app can play inside Zuno. These are what appear automatically behind the Hero banner, in the Spotlight layout, and in focus previews.
  • YouTube trailers are links to a trailer on YouTube. These show on a title’s detail page in the Trailers & Extras row. Selecting one opens it in YouTube, as it is a link rather than a video file Zuno can play itself.

Plex

Plex provides a playable trailer link for most popular titles, so on Plex auto-playing trailers work out of the box, with nothing for you to set up.

Jellyfin and Emby

Jellyfin and Emby do not provide playable trailer video the way Plex does. For most titles they only offer a YouTube link, which is why you still see trailers in the Trailers & Extras row that open in YouTube, but nothing plays automatically behind the artwork.

To get auto-playing trailers on Jellyfin or Emby, add a local trailer file to your library. Once your server has one, Zuno will find it and play it in the Hero, Spotlight, and focus previews just as it does on Plex.

  1. Get a trailer video file for the title, for example an .mp4 or .mkv.

  2. Add it to the title’s folder so your server recognises it as that title’s trailer. Either of these works for a single trailer:

    • Name the file exactly trailer.mp4 and place it in the same folder as the film (or, for a show, the series folder).
    • Or put it in a trailers subfolder inside that folder, with any file name, for example The Film (2020)/trailers/The Film Trailer.mp4.

  3. Rescan the library on your server so it picks up the new file.
