Managed Profiles

Managed profiles let you turn any profile into a kids profile. A managed profile filters mature content out of Discover, Search and your libraries, and can have features hidden so younger viewers only see what you want them to.

Who can set them up

Managed profiles are configured by the admin: the profile signed in as the owner of your Plex server, or an administrator on your Jellyfin server. Only the admin sees the Family section, under Settings > Family.

A managed profile can never change its own restrictions. You always set them up from the admin profile, and the Family settings are hidden while a managed profile is in use.

Making a profile managed

From the admin profile, open Settings > Family.
Choose the profile you want to manage.
Turn on Managed profile.
Set a maximum maturity level, choose whether to block unrated titles, and tick any features you want to lock.

Maturity levels

The maximum maturity level sets the highest age rating the profile can see:

Little Kids: the youngest ratings only (for example U and G).
Older Kids: adds gentler family ratings (for example PG).
Teens: adds early-teen ratings (for example 12 and PG-13).
Adults: no limit.

Zuno reads the age rating each title provides from your server and from online sources, then hides anything above the level you set. This applies to Discover, Search and your library grids.

Blocking unrated titles

Some titles have no age rating at all. Turn on Block unrated titles to hide these from a managed profile rather than letting them through.

In your libraries, unrated titles are always hidden for a managed profile, as there’s no rating to judge them by. On the curated Discover feed, only titles flagged as adult can be filtered, because that feed doesn’t carry age ratings.

Locking features

You can hide whole features from a managed profile. Locked features simply don’t appear for that profile:

Using managed profiles across your devices

Your profiles and their settings sync automatically across devices signed in to the same iCloud account. So if a child’s iPad uses your Apple ID, the managed profile and its restrictions appear there with nothing more to do.

If a child’s device uses their own Apple ID, your settings won’t sync to it. You have two options:

Set it up on that device too. Sign in as the admin, open Settings > Family and configure the managed profile once on that device.
Use your server’s own parental controls. Give the child a restricted user on your Plex or Jellyfin server. The server then keeps mature content off that login on every device and app, whether or not Zuno is doing any filtering.
