Discover

Discover is what you see in the Search tab before you type anything. It’s a page for finding something new to watch, and it changes every day: what’s popular today, the titles climbing fastest this week, themed rows, and what’s coming out soon. It’s on iPhone, iPad, Apple TV and Mac.

Titles you already have are marked as on your server, so you can tell at a glance what you can play straight away.

From top to bottom, Discover shows:

  • Featured: a few highlights, each with a short description written by Zuno.
  • Because you watched: more like something you’ve watched recently.
  • Top 10 today: the ten most popular films and series today. Switch between Films and Series.
  • Climbing this week: the titles rising fastest, with how many places each has moved, or whether it’s New this week. Open it to see the whole chart.
  • Themed rows: a fresh set every day, such as Feel-Good Road Trips or Slow-Burn Mysteries. Each title comes with a short description written by Zuno.
  • Zuno Flow: carries on from something you’re watching. See Zuno Flow.
  • Coming soon: what’s on the way, with the date it comes out where you live and whether that’s in cinemas or on digital.
  • What’s New: the latest releases.
  • Networks: browse by network or studio.
  • Complete the set: film series you’ve started. See Complete the set.
  • Seasonal: a row for the time of year, such as Spooky Season in October.
  • Film series: a different film series each day, in release order.
  • Browse: explore by genre or by mood. See Browse by genre or mood.

Some sections only appear when they have something for you. Because you watched and Zuno Flow need something you’ve watched, and Complete the set needs a film series you’ve started.

The Zuno Flow card starts from something you’re watching. Select it and Zuno Flow lays out what’s related. Pick a title and it lays out what’s related to that one, so you can follow a trail from one title to the next.

Complete the set shows the film series you’ve started and how many of the films you have, such as 2 of 5 on your server. Open a series to see every film in it, in release order, and which ones you’re missing.

With Zuno Pro and requests set up, you can request all the missing films in one go.

At the bottom of Discover, Browse has two tabs:

  • Genres: open a genre to see what’s in it.
  • Moods: pick a mood, or choose Surprise me. Moods are ordered for the time of day, so the ones that suit right now come first.

Picking a mood opens a sentence you can play with, such as Tonight I want something cosy set in a small town, to watch with anyone. Change any word and the picks change to match.

  • iPhone and iPad: tap a word to change it, or touch and hold it to choose from the full list. Tap a pick to read what it’s about.
  • Mac: click a word to change it, or Control-click it to choose from the full list. Point at a pick to read what it’s about.
  • Apple TV: click a word to change it, hold it for the full list, or press Play/Pause for a surprise.

On iPhone, iPad and Mac, the bookmark button at the top of Discover opens your watchlist. On Apple TV, it’s the Your Watchlist card just above Browse.

Choose which sections Discover shows, and in what order. Your layout is saved to your profile and follows you to your other devices.

  1. Scroll to the bottom of Discover and select Customise Discover.

  2. On iPhone, iPad and Mac, drag sections into the order you want and switch off any you don’t want, then tap Done. On Apple TV, select a section and use Move Up and Move Down to change where it appears, and Show on Discover to hide or show it.

Featured always stays at the top and Browse at the bottom, though you can switch either off.

To hide one section quickly on iPhone, iPad or Mac, touch and hold it (on Mac, Control-click it) and choose Hide. Tap the message that appears to undo it, or switch it back on in Customise Discover.

To start again, choose Reset to default in Customise Discover. Every section comes back, in the original order, on all your devices.

If you’d rather Search showed only what’s on your servers, turn on My Library Only in Settings → Home & Interface. Discover is then replaced by titles from your own libraries.

On a managed profile, Discover leaves out titles flagged as adult.
